Plitvice lakes

The Plitvice Lakes National Park was founded in 1949 and then in 1979 was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register as one of the oldest national parks in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia.

The beauty of the National Park lies in its 16 lakes, inter-connected by a series of waterfalls, and set in deep woodland populated by deer, bears, wolves, boars and rare bird species. The National Park covers a total area of 300 square kilometres, whilst the lakes join together over a distance of eight kilometres. It takes upwards of six hours to explore the lakes on foot, or you can slice two hours off by taking advantage of the park's free boats and buses (departing every 30 minutes from April to October).

According to CNN Travel Plitvice Lakes are one of the 10 most beautiful lakes in the world.
